Virtual Dialogues in Translation: Religion in the Global Public Sphere

Blog: http://sites.duke.edu/dialogues

Virtual Dialogues in Translation is an online studio that aims to make audible and give visibility to the voices of groups and individuals who are involved in multiple levels of civic engagement and are active in the public sphere. From the rural religious leader (pundit) in a temple (mandir) in India to the views of the woman who runs a school in Bomako in Mali; from the ideas of the man calling people to prayers (muezzin) in Jakarta in Indonesia to the physician turned politician in the south of the United States. In today’s crowded global media environment, vital voices that resonate with views on religion and culture broadly conceived are not reported yet it is absolutely crucial that they be heard. Our project aims to give voice and highlight the work of such individuals and communities, through the exchange of letters, web portals, short videos, films, instant messaging, emails and multiple other forms of exchange in as many languages as it might be possible for us to offer.
